So Your question is the sum of 17 and -8.

Well before I starts remember this:

When there are 2 positive integers, you add them and the answer comes in positive.

When there are 2 negative integers, you add them and the answer comes in negative.

When there is 1 positive integer and another in negative integer, You subtract them and the sign comes of the greater integer's

So

17 is a positive integer.

-8 is a negative integer.

So you subtract them and you have to put the greater number's sign which is 17 a '+'

So 17-8

= 9!

That is your final answer hope it helped.
