मंगल पांडे एक भारतीय सैनिक थे, जिनका जन्म 19 जुलाई 1827 को नगवा में हुआ था। ब्रिटिश सरकार ने उन्हें गद्दार और विद्रोही घोषित किया था, पांडे आधुनिक भारत में एक नायक हैं।
मंगल पांडे 1857 के विद्रोह में अपना बलिदान देने वाले पहले महान नायक थे। मंगल पांडे को यह ज्ञात हुआ कि अंग्रेज़ अधिकारी गाय और सूर की चर्बी से कारतूस बना रहे हैं। यह देखकर उन्हें बहुत गुस्सा आया। उन्होंने अपने कुछ मित्रों के साथ मिलकर आजादी की जंग छेड़ दी और अंग्रेजों पर हमला कर दिया। हमले के कुछ दिनो बाद ही उन्हें फांसी की सजा सुनाई गई। 18 अप्रैल 1857 को उन्हे फांसी पर लटका दिया गया।

At the time, he was a soldier in the 34th Bengal Native Infantry (BNI) regiment that was maintained by the British East India Company.
While the British leaders held him as a mutineer and traitor, he is regarded as a hero all through India for his efforts. In 1984, the government of India issued a postage stamp in honour of his contributions.
The life and times of this hero have been portrayed through many books and cinematic productions.
He was executed by the British empire after a swift one-sided court case and fast judgement, just like many other trials of that time.
