Lord Macaulay submitted his report Macaulay minute on Indian Education.

In his report, he criticized the Orientalists and passionately emphasized the need to teach English language. He felt that knowledge of English language would make the Indians aware of the developments in the Western literature, science and philosophy. On the basis of his report, English Education Act was passed in 1835, which made English as the medium of instruction for higher education.
