The given sentence is in reference to the chapter The Lost Boy.
- The Lost Boy is a story about a small boy who gets lost in a fair. The child would have gone to the local fair with his parents on a regular spring day. He continuously keeps looking around at all the exciting things in the fair and keeps making demands for sweets, toys, etc. from his parents. But suddenly when he turns to look at the merry-go-round and looks back he finds himself no where close to his parents and realizes that he is lost.
- The given sentence is in reference to the stranger who finds the child in between all this and picks him up and tries to comfort him. Hence, the man lifted the child because he saw that the child was lost and he wanted to help him.
- The man is portrayed as a rather kind and caring person who only intends to help the child. He also tries to comfort the boy by offering to buy sweets or play on the merry-go-round. But the child only wants his parents and nothing else. This shows the bond between the little boy and his parents and a representation of the relationship of a child with his mother and father.
