let the present age of the son be = x

let the present age of the mother be = x + 24

given , mother becomes 3 times the age of son after 4years.

therefore the equation would be like -

=> 3(x+4) = x + 24 + 4

=> 3x + 12 = x + 28

=> 2x = 16

=> x = 8

therefore present age of son = x = 8yrs

present age of mother = x + 24 = 8+24 = 32 yrs
