Given :- 2 friends decide to race around a circular track of 300 metres. Parvati covers 5 metres per step and finishes the race in 45 seconds. Given that number of footsteps per second is same for both, how long are Rita's steps if she finishes 30 seconds later. ?

Solution :-

Lets solve for Parvati first :-

→ Total distance of race = 300m .

→ Distance cover by parvati in each step = 5 m.

So,

→ Total steps she took to complete the race = 300/5 = 60 steps.

Now,

→ Time she finish the race in = 45 seconds.

Therefore, we can see that,

→ Parvati took 60 steps in = 45 seconds.

Hence,

→ Parvati took = (60/45) = (4/3) steps / second.

Solving for Rita :-

given that, number of footsteps per second is same for both.

So,

→ Rita also took = (4/3) steps / second..

and,

→ Total Time taken by Rita = 45 + 30 = 75 seconds.

Therefore,

→ Total steps took by Rita in 75 seconds = (75) * (4/3) = 100 steps.

Hence,

→ Each step of Rita is = (Total distance to cover)/ (Total steps) = 300 / 100 = 3 m (Ans.)

Rita's steps are 3 metre Iong .
