below the ground by a negative integer. If an elevator descends at a rate of 5m/min and
begins to descend from 15 m above the ground, what will be its position after 45 minutes?

Solution:

The elevator descends at a rate of 5 m/min, i.e., it goes 5 m downwards in 1 minute.

So in 45 minutes, it goes

= 45 * 5 m

= 225 m downwards

Its current position is at

= 15 - 225 m

= - 210 m

i.e., 210 m below the ground.
