Axial bonds are longer than equatorial because the no. of repulsions faced by them from electrons of other atoms is more than that at equatorial positions. PCl5 is sp3d hybridised molecule. ... This is because the axial bonds experience greater repulsion from other bonds than the equatorial bonds.
