given 20% of total dolls were defective

⇒ defective dolls = 20x/100 = x/5

⇒ remaining dolls = total dolls - defective dolls

⇒ remaining dolls = x - x/5 = 4x/5

given 25% of the remaining dolls are damaged

damged dolls = (25/100) × 4x/5 = x/5

leftover dolls = remaining dolls - damaged dolls

leftover dolls = 4x/5 - x/5 = 3x/5

given leftover dolls = 4800

⇒ 3x/5 = 4800

⇒ x = 8000

⇒ the original number of dolls produced are 8000
