1. It helps different countries to reinforce their health system by building up infrastructure, particularly health, manpower, health institutions & services for the individual family and community.

2. It promotes the research required to develop appropriate technologies relating to all aspects of health.

3. WHO plays a major role in providing safe drinking water and adequate waste disposal for all.

4. WHO makes a worldwide campaign in providing effective immunisation for all children to prevent six major communicable diseases of childhood like diphtheria, measles, poliomyelitis, tetanus, tuberculosis and whooping cough.

5. It has also set standards for many life saving drugs. As such it has now become possible to verify the effectiveness and purity of imporyed medicines.

6. It aims at fighting diseases and preventing them from spreading. Malaria eradication programme continues to be the world's biggest health program.
