» Given :-

2x - y = 4 ________[Eq(1)]

5x + y = 24 ________[Eq(2)]

_______________________________

From Eq(1)

2x - y = 4

- y = 4 - 2x

y = 2x - 4 ________[Eq(3)]

• Put value of Eq(3) in Eq(2)

=> 5x + (2x - 4) = 24

=> 5x + 2x - 4 = 24

=> 7x = 24 + 4

=> 7x = 28

=> x = 4

_______________________________

• Put value of x in Eq(3)

=> y = 2(4) - 4

=> y = 8 - 4

=> y = 4

_______________________________

x = 4

y = 4

===============================

Explanation :-

============

» Take one of the given Eq

i.e.

2x - y = 4

Put value of x and y in it.

=> 2(4) - 4 = 4

=> 8 - 4 = 4

=> 4 = 4

• Similarly

5x + y = 24

=> 5(4) + 4 = 24

=> 20 + 4 = 24

=> 24 = 24

• Or

y = 2x - 4

=> y = 2(4) - 4

=> y = 8 - 4

=> y = 4
