I believe you are referring to the story "Heaven and Hell" from Indian folklore. The story is about the wit of Tenaliram, also known as Tenali Rama.

What is a Story?

A story is a narrative or a tale, usually fictional, that is used to convey a message, an idea or an experience. Stories are often told orally, through books, movies, or other forms of media. They can be used for entertainment, education, or to convey cultural or moral values.

In the court of King Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara, India, Tenaliram served as a court jester. According to legend, Tenaliram once wondered what made paradise and hell different. He made the decision to check out both locations. As Tenaliram arrived in heaven, he observed people residing in splendour, amidst lovely gardens and delectable cuisine. But he noticed that everyone was eating their food with long spoons. The spoons were too long and they couldn't get the food to their mouths. When Tenaliram travelled to hell, he discovered a similar scenario, except this time the people there were famished and malnourished while being surrounded by beautiful food. He did observe that they were all eating with identical long spoons, though. Tenaliram reported what he had witnessed when he reached the court of King Krishnadevaraya. He stated that although those in paradise could not eat because they were too preoccupied with feeding themselves, those in hell could because they were preoccupied with feeding one another.

The story is often told to illustrate the importance of kindness and selflessness, as well as the consequences of being too self-centered.
