Construction of the Taj Mahal
1631 - 1648
The Mughal Shah Jahan comissioned it to be built in 1628, and construction began in 1631. It was to be built in honor of his wife who died in childbirth, and got its name because Taj Mahal is a derivation of the name of his deceased wife ("Taj Mahal"). The most skilled artisans from all over India came to help on the project which took 17 years to complete. It was dedicated in 1983 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ("The Construction")
Warren Hastings becomes India's first Governor General

Warren Hastings (1732-1818) worked his way up the power scale until becoming the first Governor General of India at the age of 40. This meant his job was to supervise all of the British settlements in India at the time. The Sepoy Mutiny, or Sepoy Rebellion, was started by Indian Soldiers of the British Indian Army. The spark was that gun cartriges used by the Sepoys were rumoured to contain pig/cow grease which went against the Religion of the Hindu/Muslim Sepoys.
