Ekalavya's dedication to his Archery and his dexterity in using the bow and arrow and his devotion to Drona impressed Drona.
EXPLANATION:
Deep in the forest the Kaurava and Pandava princes had gone hunting with their Guru the great Drona. Their hunting dog accompanied them. It was barking all the time and spoiling the serenity of the forest.
Ekalavya the great archer who Drona had refused to teach for his low caste was meditating in the forest. Getting very irritated with the barking, Ekalavya shot an arrow that pierced the mouth of the dog and stopped it from barking. But the arrow did not hurt the dog. Drona was very impressed by the skill of Archery exhibited by Ekalavya.
