3.
Which mixture of the solutions will lead to the
formation of negatively charged colloidal
[Ag/]- sol?
[NEET-2019]
(1) 50 mL of 1 M AgNO3 + 50 mL of 1.5 M KI
(2) 50 mL of 1 M AgNO, + 50 mLof 2 M KI
(3) 50 mL of 2 M AgNO, + 50 mL of 1.5 M KI
(4) 50 mL of 0.1 M AgNO3, + 50 mL of 0.1 M KI

50 mL of 1 M AgNO₃ + 50 mL of 1.5 M KI mixture will lead to the formation of negatively charged colloidal [Agl]I⁻ solution.

For negatively charged colloidal solution reaction is-

AgNO₃ + KI → AgI + KNO₃

  • To form negatively charged colloidal solution some KI will be needed to surround AgI.
  • So concentration of KI will be more than Ag.
  • In 50 mL of 1 M AgNO₃+ 50 mL of 2 M KI concentration of KI becomes double which means concentration of potassium ion will increases and coagulation takes place.

So correct option is (1) 50 mL of 1 M AgNO₃ + 50 mL of 1.5 M KI
