The population growth has given rise to many problems, such as the problem of food, employment, pollution etc. One of them is the problem of pollution. It is really very dangerous for mankind. There are different kinds of pollution. They are-
1. Chemical Pollution
2. Air Pollution
3. Sound Pollution
4. Water Pollution
5. Radio-Active Pollution
There is discharge of dirty water and chemicals from factories. All this dirt is directed to rivers. The result is the pollution of water. There is smoke from automobiles which pollutes the air. The great noise in large cities is a great nuisance.
Industrial and chemical wastes have not only affected water but also polluted the air and the water. The disposal of domestic wastes and dirty water has been arising in a horrible form.
The Ganga water has not been free from any sort of pollution. But it has been polluted on account of uncontrolled industrialization. The medical value of Ganga water has been decreasing day by day.
Pollution is such an undesirable change in the air, the water and the land, and their physical, chemical and biological properties- which harms any form of beings and other useful animals, plants, industrial concerns and other raw materials.
Air Pollution
Air is the basic need to living beings. If it is polluted, one cannot lead a normal life. Man can avoid using polluted water, but there is no escape from polluted air. People, who breathe this air, are in danger of suffering from senile diseases. To make a happy life man has polluted the environment. No one can think that he or she is also a part of this environment, in which everyone breathes. Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is one of the most polluted cities in the world. Sometimes there are so much fog, smoke, mist there- that the citizens wear masks on their faces to go to their jobs. The traffic police constables store oxygen with them. The leakage of poisonous gas at Union Carbide Factory in Bhopal, in Madhya Pradesh left over 2,000 people to sleep forever. Many unexpected incidents have been occurred due to air pollution in so many Asian, African and European nations.
The means of road transport- trucks, buses etc. let out smokes like carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen oxide. All the vehicles running in cities and towns and everywhere consume oxygen and let out carbon monoxide, nitrogen etc. The balance of oxygen and carbon monoxide has been imbalanced due to ignorance of men. Air pollution affects our health negatively. The particles of metal, lead, cadmium, nitrogen oxide and ozone affect our body. The particulars of different metals affect our respiratory system, lead particles weakens our nervous system, cadmium works as poison and causes heart troubles, nitrogen oxide causes diseases of lungs- heart and eyes. Ozone creates eye disease, cough and pain of the chest.
Suggestions to control Air Pollution
The air pollution can be controlled through the following measures-
1. By setting up industries far from densely polluted areas.
2. By encouraging "Grow more Trees".
3. By creating consciousness towards healthy environment.
4. Controlling population explosion.
5. By pressing or compelling the industrialists to follow the laws regarding environment.
6. By using correct materials as fuel.
