3x² - 14x - 5= 0
splitting the middle term
3x² -15x + 1x - 5 = 0
3x( x - 5 ) + ( x - 5 ) = 0
( x - 5 ) ( 3x + 1 ) = 0
therefore,
x - 5 = 0 or 3x + 1 = 0
x = 5 or x = -1 / 3
I hope this helps you.

First we will split middle term 14x
So we want product should be -15 and sum/substract -14
