The L-isomer of monosaccharide formed in human body during uronic acid pathway is L-Xylulose

  • Uronic acid pathway is one of the alternative oxidative pathway for the glucose metabolism.
  • During step 7 of the reaction process the decarboxyllation of 3-keto L-gluconic acid forms L-Xylulose and keto pentose and release CO₂ gas.
  • The L-Xylulose is an intermediate product formed in the reaction.
  • L-Xylulose again on oxidation reduces to xylitol via xylitol dehydrogenase  also called as xylulo sereductase.
