4g of copper gave 5 gram of copper oxide.

Therefore,

Mass of oxygen in oxide = 5- 4 = 1g

Now,

Mass of copper which combined with 1 g oxygen = 4

Mass of copper which will combine with 8 gram oxygen = 4 x 8 = 32

Therefore, equivalent mass of copper is 32.
