(i)4x-y=4

(ii)3x+2y=14

first of all multiply equation (i)...by 2....to  make the y equalin both equations...

therefore we get (iii)8x-2y=8...

now add it....

3x+2y=14

8x-2y=8

+_________

11x=22

therefore..22/11=x

x=2

take equation (i)...and substitute the value of x in that...

4(2)-y=4

8-4=y

4=y
