Solution :-

Let the cost price of the bicycle be Rs. x

According to the question.

x - (x*20)/100 = 1536

⇒ x - x/5 = 1536

⇒ 4x/5 = 1536

⇒ 4x = 1536*5

⇒ 4x = 7680

⇒ x = 7680/4

⇒ x = 1920

So, cost price of the bicycle is Rs. 1920

Now, the new selling price is Rs. 2040

Profit = SP - CP

Profit = 2040 - 1920

Profit = Rs. 120

Profit percent = Profit*100/CP

⇒ (120*100)/1920

⇒ 12000/1920

⇒ 6.25 %

So, gain percent is 6.5 % if the selling price of the bicycle is Rs. 2040
