By pythagoras theorem,
(5) {}^{2} + (12) {}^{2}   = (13) {}^{2}

phythagorous triplet states that In a right angled triangle the square of the hypotenuse( larger side)is equal to sum of the squares of the other two sides.
by your question
 {13}^{2}  =  {12}^{2}  +  {5}^{2}
that is 169=144+25
