Answer:
We can solve this problem using sum of n terms in arithmetic progression.
The formula is :
Sum =( n/2)* (2a+(n-1d))
Here :
S stands for sum of n terms
n stands for number of terms
a stands for first term
d stands for the amount by which the series increases.
For the given problem
a = unknown , n=5 , d =5 , sum = 135
So by applying the values in above formula , we have to find the number of bugs it are initially so we get the following answer.
The bug eats 7 flies on day1 , 17 on day2 , 27 on day3 , 37 on day4 and then 47 flies on day5.
If we sum up all the numbers of flies eaten on each day we will get total number of flies.
After 3 days bug has eaten 51 flies and after day4 has eaten 88 flies .
Hope this answers your question.
