5. A stone is thrown in a vertically
upward direction with a velocity
of 5 ms. If the acceleration of the
stone during its motion is 10 ms?
in the downward direction, what
will be the height attained by the
stone and how much time will it
take to reach there?

Given,
u = 5m/s and a = -g = -10m/s since work done is negative
As it reaches the maximum height, v = 0
Therefore, from position velocity relation, we have
v^2 - u^2 = 2 as
0 - 5^2 = 2*-10 * s
-25 = -20s
s = -25/-20 = 1.25 m
From velocity time relation
v = u + at
0 = 5 - 10t
5 = 10t
t = 5/10 = 0.5 s
u = 5m/s and a = -g = -10m/s since work done is negative
As it reaches the maximum height, v = 0
Therefore, from position velocity relation, we have
v^2 - u^2 = 2 as
0 - 5^2 = 2*-10 * s
-25 = -20s
s = -25/-20 = 1.25 m
From velocity time relation
v = u + at
0 = 5 - 10t
5 = 10t
t = 5/10 = 0.5 s
