Given : P, Q, R and S divide the line segment joining the points A(1, 2)

and B(6, 7) in five equal parts.

To Find :the coordinates of the points P, Q and R.

Solution:

P, Q, R and S divide the line segment joining the points A(1, 2)

and B(6, 7) in five equal parts.

=> AP = PQ = QR = RS = SB

AP + PQ + QR + RS + SB  = AB

=> AP : PB  = 1 : 4

P divides points A(1, 2) and B(6, 7)    in  1: 4 ratio

=>  P  =  (  1 * 6 + 4 * 1)/(1 + 4)  , ( 1 * 7  + 4 * 2)/(1 + 4)

=  (2 ,  3)

Similarly  Q divided AB in 2 : 3 ratio

R Divided AB in 3 : 2 ration

P = (2,3)

Q = ( 3 , 4)

R = ( 4 , 5)

S = ( 5 , 6)
