Answer:

ribbon sarita bought= 2/5m

ribbon Lalita bought = 3/4m

Total length of ribbon = 2/5 + 3/4

= 8/20 + 15/20

= 23/20m

Therefore, the total length of ribbon is 23/20m.

Given :–

  • Sarita bought \dfrac{2}{5} \: m of ribbon.
  • Lalita bought \dfrac{3}{4} \: m of ribbon.

To Find :–

  • The total length of the ribbon they bought.

Solution :–

Let,

The total length of the ribbon be x.

According to the question,

• Ribbon bought by Sarita + Ribbon bought by Lalita = Total length of the ribbon they bought.

Given values are,

  • Ribbon bought by Sarita = \dfrac{2}{5} \: m
  • Ribbon bought by Lalita = \dfrac{3}{4} \: m

Now, put both the given values for finding the total length of the ribbon they bought.

  \longrightarrow\dfrac{2}{5} + \dfrac{3}{4} = x

Now, take the L.C.M. (least common multiple) of the denominators.

So, 20 is the L.C.M. of 5 and 4.

● L.C.M. is in the attachment ●

Now,

 \longrightarrow \dfrac{2 \times 4 +3 \times 5}{20} = x

Multiply the numerators.

\longrightarrow\dfrac{8 + 15}{20} = x

Add the numerators.

\longrightarrow\dfrac{23}{20} = x

Hence,

The total length of the ribbon they bought is \dfrac{23}{20} \: m
