50 g of ice at 0°c is added to 300g of liquid at 30°c, what will be the final temp. of mixture when all the ice has melted?(sp. heat capacity of liquid is 3 J/g/°c while that of water is 4.2 J/g/°c and sp. latent heat of fusion of ice = 336 J/g)

Heat required to convert ice to water

Q = m L

Q = 50 (336)

Q = 16.8 kJ

Let T be the final temperature of the mixture.

Heat gained by water at 0 deg

H = m s (T-0)

H = 50 (4.2) T

H = 210 T

This total heat should be lost by liquid at 30 deg C

H' = m' s' (30-T)

H' = 300(3)(30-T)

H' = 900(30-T)

H' = Q + H

27000 - 900T = 16800 + 210T

1110 T = 10200

T = 9.189 deg C
