Compare 5m² - 4m -2 = 0 with

am² + bm + c = 0 , we get

a = 5 , b = -4 , c = -2

Discreaminant ( D ) = b² - 4ac

D = ( -4 )² - 4 × 5 × ( -2 )

D = 16 + 40

D = 56

By Quadratic formula ,

m = [ ( -b ± √D )/2a ]

m = [ ( -(-4 ) ± √56 )/( 2 × 5 ) ]

m = [ ( 4 ± 2√14 )/10

m = [ 2( 2 ± √14 )/10 ]

m = ( 2 ± √14 )/5

Therefore ,

m =(2 +√14)/5 or m=(2- √14 )/5
