This kind of questions really have a variety of solutions based on the user perspective. Every solution has the same result but with some different process.

Irrespective to the previous solutions I do prefer for the easiest and the simple way of analysing the sequence as a set of numbers that are multiplied together to get the results.

The sequence is 3, 20, 63, 144, 275…

Lets just assume the sequence starts with the number 1 and that implementing the multiplication as :

1 * 3 = 3.

Here, 1 is the number that starts the sequence of the perfect squares while the 3 is the odd number excluding 1. So the both multiplied yields the result 3.

For the second set 20, increment the number and then multiply it with the next odd number as follows :

4 * 5 = 20.

Implementing the same for the rest set of numbers we get,

9 * 7 = 63.

16 * 9 = 144.

25 * 11 = 275

36 * 13 = 468.

So the next number in the sequence is the result of the multiplication of the square of or the perfect square 36 with the 5th odd number excluding 1.

So the answer is 468.
