and x+y = 125 (B)

putting value of x in (A)

₹62,500 - ₹500y + ₹2000y = ₹1,00,000

₹2000y - ₹500y = ₹1,00,000 - ₹62,500

₹1500y = ₹37,500

y = ₹37,500 ÷ ₹1,500

y= 25 notes

therefore x = 125- 25 = 100 notes

therefore the lady got 100 notes of ₹500 and 25 notes of ₹2000
