Mandela's understanding of freedom changed with age and experience in the following way-

  • As a young child, Mandela felt free to do the things he liked and understood that obeying his parents' commands would get him that.
  • As he began to grow older, he realized that the freedom to earn a decent living and exercise his rights in society was not as easy.
  • With age and experience, he understood that it was an important struggle for all black people.
