8. epiglottis is a flap like structure which is present at the meeting point of wind pipe and food pipe. It helps in taking the swallowed food to the stomach and the respired air to the lungs.This is the reason why we can't respire while swallowing. Epiglottis also help in preventing the food to come from stomach to mouth.
