Given:

  • 8 years ago, Neelam was four times as old as her daughter. 8 years hence, Neelam will be two times as old as her daughter.

To find:-

  • Present age of Neelam and her daughter.

Answer:-

8 years ago:-

‣ Let the age of Neelam's daughter 8 years ago be x years.

According to the question, 8 years ago, age of Neelam was 4 times the age of her daughter.

‣ Age of Neelam 8 years ago = 4x years

Present age:-

‣ Present age of Neelam's daughter = (Age of Neelam's daughter 8 years ago) + 8 = (x + 8) years

‣ Present age of Neelam = (Age of Neelam 8 years ago) + 8 = (4x + 8) years

8 years hence:-

‣ Age of Neelam's daughter 8 years hence = (Present age of Neelam's daughter) + 8 = (x + 8) + 8 years = (x + 16) years

‣ Age of Neelam 8 years hence = (Present age of Neelam) + 8 = (4x + 8) + 8 years = (4x + 16) years

▪ Accroding to the question, Age of Neelam 8 years hence = 2(Age of Neelam's daughter 8 years hence)

So,

4x + 16 = 2(x + 16)

→ 4x + 16 = 2x + 32

→ 4x - 2x = 32 - 16

→ 2x = 16

→ x = 16/2

→ x = 8

Hence,

⦾ Present age of Neelam's daughter = x + 8 = 8 + 8 = 16 years Ans.

⦾ Present age of Neelam = 4x + 8 = (4 × 8) + 8 = 40 years Ans.

\text{\huge\underline{\red{Question:-}}}

: \Longrightarrow 8 years ago, Neelam was four times as old as a daughter .8 years hence, Neelam will be two times as old as a daughter. find their present ages.

\text{\huge\underline{\orange{To\ find:-}}}

: \Longrightarrow Present age of neelam = ?

: \Longrightarrow Present age of daughter = ?

\text{\huge\underline{\purple{Solution:-}}}

: \Longrightarrow Let age of the daughter = x

: \Longrightarrow 8 years ago daughter's age = x - 8

: \Longrightarrow And neelam's age at that time = 4 (x - 8)

: \Longrightarrow Present age of neelam's = 4x - 32 + 8 = 3x - 24

: \Longrightarrow 8 years hence neelam's age = 4x - 24 + 8 = 4x - 16

: \Longrightarrow 8 years hence daughter's age = x + 8

\text{\huge\underline{\green{Given:-}}}

: \Longrightarrow 2 (x + 8) = 2 (4x - 16)

\text{\large\underline{\pink{According\ to\ the\ question:-}}}

: \Longrightarrow 2x + 16 = 8x - 32

: \Longrightarrow 16 + 32 = 8x - 2x

: \Longrightarrow 48 = 6x

: \Longrightarrow x =  \mathrm{\dfrac{48}{6}}

: \Longrightarrow x = 8.

: \Longrightarrow ● Daughter's present age = x + 8 = 8 + 8 = 16 years.

: \Longrightarrow ● Neelam's present age = 4x + 8 = (4 × 8) + 8 = 40 years.
