97% of water is present in seas and oceans, still there is a water problem of drinking water. why and how?

Earth's major portion of water is present in seas and oceans, but though having a large amount of water all of it is not consumable by ANIMALS.
Only freshwater is consumed by us.
Fresh water is generally characterized by having low concentrations of dissolved salts and other total dissolved solids. Though the term specifically excludes seawater and brackish water, it does include mineral-rich waters such
as chalybeate springs.
Out of 97% only 0.003 % water is Fresh and unpolluted water globally.
