A 23kg ball at the top of the hill falls 168 m to the
ground below. Assuming the drop starts from rest and ignoring drag force,
what is the speed of the ball just before it reaches the bottom?

Identify the forces:

Kinetic Initial

Kinetic Final

Potential Initial

Potential Final

m(mass of the ball)=23kg

h(height)=168m

wkt, -u²=2gh

v²-(0)²= 2×9.8×168

v²=3292.8 J

v²=3293 J (rounding off for simpler calculation)

1) Kinetic initial= 1/2mu²

=1/2×23×0

= 0 J

2) Kinetic final= 1/2mv²

= 1/2×23×3293

= 38786.5 J

3) Potential initial= mgh

= 23×9.8×168

= 37867.2 J

4) Potential final= mgh

= 23×9.8×0

=0
