a) A jar of water with 15 cm of height. Find the pressure of water at the bottom of the jar, ignore the atmospheric pressure and use the acceleration due to gravity g =10 m/s2 and the density of water 1000 Kg/m3.
b) The volume of 50 g of a substance is 20 cm3. If the density of water is 1 g/cm3, will the substance float or sink in water? Justify your answer.

Explanation:

a) density * g * height of water. but first convert height into meters.

b) Given, mass of substance, m=50g;

volume, V=20cm3; density, ρ=?

The density of substance given is

d=Vm=20cm/350g=2.5gcm−3

Hence the density of the substance is greater than the density of water. Hence the weight acting downwards Vdg is greater than the buoyant force acting upwards Vρwaterg.

Hence the substance will sink in water.
