A bag contains 24 balls, out of which X are white. If one ball is drawn at random, the P(E) of drawing a white ball is Y. 12 more white balls are added to the bag. Now if a ball is drawn, from the bag, the P(E) of drawing a white ball is 5Y/3, find the value of X.

The value of x is 8.

Total number of balls = 24 (Given)

Let the number of white balls be = x

Probability of drawing a white ball = y.

Probability of drawing a white ball -

Number of white balls / Total number of balls

y = x/24

Now, since 12 more white balls are added to the bag, thus -

Probability of drawing a white ball = Number of white balls /Total number of balls

5y/3 = x + 12/ 24+12

5y/3 = x+12/36

5y = x+12/12

5×x/24 = x+12/12

5x = 2x+24

3x=24

x=8

Thus, the value of x is 8.
