When the packet falls from the balloon it has an initial velocity of 5 m/s.

The acceleration is the acceleration due to gravity which is 10m/s²

S = 98m

We will use the following equation of motion :

V² = U² + 2gs

V² = 25 + 2 × 10 × 98

V² = 1985

V = 44.55 m/s

Answer:44.1m/s

Explanation:

Given :-

u=5m/s

g=9.8m/s²

h=98m

∴ v²-u²=2gs

⇒v²=u²+2gs

⇒v²=5²+2×9.8×98

⇒v²=25+1920.8

⇒v²=1945.8

⇒v=√1945.8

⇒v=44.1112231 m/s

⇒v=44.1 m/s (approx.)

∴The velocity of the packet when it strikes the ground is 44.1 m/s.
