A block of wood of weight 200 g floats on the surface of water. If the volume of block is 300 cm3 calculate the upthrust due to water.

the unit of weight is newton(kgf)

1 kgf is the force on 1 kg mass influenced by acceleration due to gravity

1kgf=9.8 N

now,the weight of the wooden block=200gf=0.2kgf=0.2×9.8 N=1.96 N

since the block is floating on water ,it's weight is balanced by upthrust due to water...
thus upthrust due to water=1.96N
