this question is based on concept of projectile .
according to oblique projectile ,
Range (R) = u^2sin2¢/g
and Height (H) = u^2sin^2¢/2g
where u is initial velocity and ¢ is initial inclination of velocity with horizontal.
R = u^2sin2¢/g is maximum only when ,
sin2¢ =1
means ¢ = 45°
hence R = u^2/g
now H = u^2/4g. {by putting ¢ = 45°
now compare H and R
hence , H = R/4
hence, maximum height =R/4
