A body starts from rest and is uniformly accelerated for 30s. The distance travelled in the first 10 s is x, in
next 10 s is x, and in the last 10 s is x,. Then x1: x2 : x3 is the same as
(A) 1:2:4
(B) 1:2:5
(C) 1:3:5

Explanation:

Initial velocity, u = 0

Acceleration = a

Distance travelled in the 1st 10s is, X1

0 + (1/2)a(10^2) = 50a

Distance travelled in the next 10 s is, X2 = [0 + (1/2)a(20^2)] – S

X1 = 200a – 50a = 150a

Distance travelled in the last 10 s is, X3 = [0 + (1/2)a(30^2)] – (X1 + X2) = 450a – 50a – 150a = 250a

Required ratio is, X1 : X2 : X3 = 50 : 150 : 250 = 1 : 3 : 5
