A body starts rolling over a horizontal surface with an initial velocity of 0.5m/s. Due to

friction, its velocity decreases at the rate of 0.05m/s2. How much time will it take for the

body to stop?

u=0.5 m/s

a=-0.05 m/s²

v=0

By first equation of motion, we have:

v=u+at

0=0.5-0.05t

0-0.5=-0.05t

-0.5=-0.05t

0.5/0.05=t

50/5=t

10 s=t

Given that,

Initial speed of a body, u = 0.5 m/s

Final speed of the body, v = 0 as its stops

Acceleration of the body, a=-0.05\ m/s^2

To find,

Time taken by the body to stop.

Solution,

The relation between velocity, acceleration and time is given by :

t=\dfrac{v-u}{-a}\\\\t=\dfrac{0-0.5}{-0.05}\\\\t=10\ s

So, the time taken by the body to stop is 10 seconds.
