A body starts to slide over a horizontal surface with an initial velocity of 0.5 m/s. Due to friction, its velocity decreases at the rate of 0.05 ms-2. How much time will it take to cover in 10 seconds after start ?

Initial velocity = u = 0.5m/s

Acceleration (Or in this case deceleration) = a = -0.05m/s²

Time = t = 10s

Using Newtons laws of motion,

S = ut + 1/2at²

S = (0.5 * 10)  +  (1/2 *  -0.05  *  100)

S = 5-5.2 = 5/2

S = 2.5m
