total time = (1/3 + 4/5) h= 17/15 h
total distance = 50 km
avg. speed = 50/17/15=50x15/17=750/17 km /h

ur answer is...

average speed = distance/ total time

time for 1st 10km = distance/speed
=10/30=1/3
now time for next 40km = 40/50 =4/5

so total time is =1/3+4/5
=(5+12)/15=17/15 hr.

total distance is 10+40 i.e 50 kms
which is equal to 44.1176471..

hope this helps you....
