A body travels a distance of 15 m from a to b and then moves a distance of 20 m at right angles to a b then what is the total displacement of the body *

The displacement is shortest distance betwee n final position and initial position. So in given problem the initial position is A and final positi on is let's say C, then the distance displaceme nt will be AC.

As it makes a right triangle ABC, we can apply Pythagoras theorem to find AC.

Therefore,

AC^2= AB^2+BC^2

= 15^2+ 20^2

= 225+400-625

So, Displacement is AC= 25 mtrs

Distance is total length of path travelled, i.e. A B+AC= 15+20= 35 mtrs.
