If the book is moving at constant speed, vertical force up is R=mg, down=mg and horizontal forces in the direction of motion=frictional force= mu*R where mu is the coefficient of friction. Frictional force mu*R opp. the direction of motion. If the book is accelerating, force in the direction of motion equals frictional force plus mass*acc.
