Let the volume of a cake be x

Cake eaten by a boy = x - 25% of x
= x - 0.25x
= 0.75x

Remaining portion of cake = 0.75x - 35% of x
= 0.75x - 0.35x
= 0.40x

Percentage of remaining portion of cake = (0.40x × 100)/x %
= 40x/x %
= 40%

Hence,
40% of the cake is left.
