Answer:

Let mother's present age be x years

So, boy's present age = x

4

Twelve years later

Mother's age=x+12

Boy's age= x+12

4

So,

x +12 = x+12

4 2

=>x+48 = x+12

4 2

=>x+48 = x+12

2

=> x+48 = 2(x+12)

=> x+48 = 2x+24

=> 48-24 = 2x-x

=> 24=x

=> x=24

So, mother's present age = x

= 24

Boy's present age = x

4

= 24

4

= 6

Hence, the present ages of the boy and his mother are 6 years and 24 years respectively.

Hope it helps you
