A bullet of mass 0.002 kg travelling at 100m/s, penetrates a fixed wooden block for 1/10

s.

Calculate the distance of the penetration of the block and average retarding force on the

bullet.​

m = 0.002 kg

u = 100 m/s

v = 0 m/s

t = 1/10 s

Acceleration = v-u/t = -100/(1/10) = -1000

Distance = 2as = v^2 - u^2

               = 2*-1000*s = 0^2 - 100^2

               = -2000s = -10000

               = s = -10000/-2000 = 5 m

Force = ma

         = 0.002*-1000

         = -2 N
