A bullet of mass 10g is moving with velocity 100m/s gets embedded in a sand bag and comes to rest after moving 10 cm. Calculate the force exerted by the sand bag on the bullet and the time taken by the bullet to stop.

Mass = 10g = 10/1000 = 0.01kg

velocity = 100m/s

distance = 10cm = 10/100 = 0.1m

Force = mass × acceleration

= 0.01 × v^2/2s

= 0.01 × 100 / 0.1 × 2

= 1/0.2

= 5N

Time taken is

100 = 0.1 / t

= 0.1/100

= 0.001 seconds

Hope it helps!
